About Us

Gender for Sustainable Development (GEN4SUD) is a women-led grassroots organization based in Cameroon, fully dedicated to advancing gender equality, climate resilience, and inclusive community development.

We have been working actively since 2019 and were officially registered as a legal entity in October 2024. Today, we operate across all ten regions of Cameroon, with particular focus on conflict-affected areas and environmentally fragile zones where challenges are most acute.

Through gender-transformative programs, sustainable livelihoods initiatives, protection services, peacebuilding efforts, and evidence-based interventions, GEN4SUD empowers women, girls, youth, and vulnerable communities to build stronger, more resilient futures.

Gender Equality First

We believe every woman and girl deserves equal rights, opportunities, and a voice — in the home, community, and nation.

Climate Resilience Matters

Women lead the way in building stronger, more sustainable communities that can withstand drought, floods, and environmental change.

Peace Starts with Us

By engaging men, boys, and communities, we create safer spaces, reduce violence, and build lasting social cohesion.

What we do.

.

GEN4SUD works to advance gender equality, strengthen climate resilience, prevent and respond to gender-based violence, support girls’ education, and build peaceful and cohesive communities across Cameroon.

We focus especially on women, girls, youth and vulnerable people living in conflict-affected and environmentally fragile areas.

Our Main Areas of Work

1. Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment
Strengthening women’s leadership, economic independence and decision-making power while engaging men and boys to support lasting change.

2. Sustainable Livelihoods & Climate Resilience
Supporting women and communities with climate-smart agriculture, alternative income sources and environmentally sustainable practices to improve food security and adapt to climate change.

3. Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention & Response
Raising awareness, creating safe spaces, strengthening referral pathways and providing survivor-centered support while working with communities to change harmful norms.

4. Girls’ Education & Capacity Building
Helping girls stay in school, building life skills, offering vocational training and financial literacy to reduce dropout, early marriage and economic vulnerability.

5. Community Peacebuilding & Social Cohesion
Promoting women’s participation in peace processes, facilitating inclusive dialogues and supporting conflict resolution to strengthen trust and peaceful coexistence.

6. Research & Gender Analysis
Conducting participatory research and gender analysis to better understand needs, power dynamics and barriers — and to design more effective, evidence-based programs.

In short

We use gender-transformative approaches to empower women and girls, build resilience against climate and conflict challenges, protect rights and dignity, and create more equal, peaceful and sustainable communities.
